Please read the following instructions carefully and carry them out one step at a time. Do not move onto the next section until you have confirmed the section you are working on is working correctly.

The instructions below assume you already have Bepinex installed and working. If this is not the case click the link below for instructions on how to set this up.

Download And Install Bepinex

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

If you are upgrading from the old Beta RC3 version you must delete the old mod before you install this one. To do this just delete the HDValheimTextures.dll & HDValheimTexturesData folder from your Bepinex\Plugins folder

Install Core HD Textures
1: Go to Willybachs HD Valheim
2: There are three versions of the mod, Higher, Medium, and Older GPU.
Download only one of the following based on your system specs.
HD Texture Pack - HIGHER (Main Files Section)
HD Texture Pack - MEDIUM (Optional Files Section)
HD Texture Pack - OLDER GPU (Optional Files Section)
3: Once downloaded extract the files directly into your Bepinex plugins folder (You may need to use 7zip to extract the files)
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore you need to extract the files into the bepinex/plugins folder located in the mod profile folder
4: If you have extracted the files correctly your plugins folder should have both the dll file and the data folder of the mod in it, as per the picture below. If you do not see files like this then you have not extracted the files correctly.
5: Confirm the mod is working by running the game. If everything is installed correctly you will see "Loading HD Valheim Textures, Please Wait" at the bottom right of your screen as the game is loading. If the textures are loaded and the game runs fine move onto the next step, otherwise go through the instructions again and make sure you have followed them exactly.
6: If you still cant get the textures to work correctly go back to the Discord page where you clicked this link and create a new support post. Please give exact details of what you have tried and what is not working. The more details you provide the easier it will be for somebody to help you.
Install HD Terrain
1: Go to Badgers HD Terrain
2: Under Main Files download the following:
Badgers HD Terrain
3: Once downloaded extract the files directly into your Bepinex plugins folder
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore you need to extract the files into the bepinex/plugins folder located in the mod profile folder
4: If you have extracted the files correctly your plugins folder should have both the dll file and the data folder of the mod in it as per the picture below. If you do not see files like this then you have not extracted the files correctly.
5: Confirm the mod is working by running the game. If everything is installed correctly your terrain textures should now be replaced with higher resolution textures. If the terrain textures are still vanilla go through the instructions again and ensure you have followed them exactly. If everything looks good then move onto the next section.
Install Willybachs HD Terrain Textures
1: Go to Willybachs HD Valheim
2: Download the following:
2 - HD Terrain Tiles (Main Files Section)
3: Once downloaded extract the files onto your Desktop or a folder of your choice (You may need to use 7zip to extract the files)
4: Open the folder you extracted in the previous step, you should see a folder HDTerrainData. Copy this folder into your Bepinex\Plugins folder and overwrite the files when prompted.

IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore make sure the bepinex/plugins folder is the one located in your mod profile folder
5: Confirm the default HD Terrain textures that come with the mod have been replaced by Willybachs textures by running the game. If the textures have not changed please go through the instructions again and ensure you have followed them exactly. If eveything is working and you want the full Willybach HD experience then move onto the optional mods below. Otherwise grab yourself a beverage and enjoy your newly installed HD mod.
Validate Installation
1: If you wish to validate your file structure within the Bepinex\Plugins folder the below diagram shows you how the folders should look. This example uses paths from a manual installation with no mod manager. If you are using a mod manager the folder paths at the top will be different.

Optional Mods

While the following mods are not strictly required for the HD mod to work they add more detail to the world and round out the experience. You can choose to install these or not.

Install Badgers Shader Overhaul
1: Go to Badgers Shader Overhaul
4: Under Main Files download the following:
Badgers Shading Overhaul
5: Extract the contents of the mod directly into your bepinex plugins folder.
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore you need to extract the files into the bepinex/plugins folder located in the mod profile folder
Install Willybach Aurora Skybox
1: Go to Badgers Valheim Skies
2: Under Optional Files download the following:
Badgers Valheim Skies for Willybachs HD
3: Go to Willybachs HD Valheim
4: Under Main Files download the following:
HD Skies - Aurora8k and 4k
5: Extract the contents of the Badgers Valheim Skies mod directly into your bepinex plugins folder.
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore you need to extract the files into the bepinex/plugins folder located in the mod profile folder
6: If you have extracted the files correctly your plugins folder should have both the dll file and the data folder of the mod in it as per the picture below. If you do not see files like this then you have not extracted the files correctly.
7: Confirm the mod is working by loading into a game world, once there press the H key on the keyboard. If the mod installed correctly you should see a configuration menu, if this is the case close the game and move onto the next step. If not go through the instructions again and ensure you have all the files in the correct places.
8: Extract the contents of the HD Skies - Aurora8k and 4k file to your Desktop or a folder of your choice. Open the folder and inside you should see a folder called BadgersValheimSkies, copy this folder into your Bepinex\Plugins folder and overwrite files if prompted.
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore make sure the bepinex/plugins folder is the one located in your mod profile folder
9: Verify the new HD sky textures have been installed by loading into a game world and pressing H to open the Valheim Skies menu again. If the textures are installed correctly you should now see them appear in the menu for you to select. If they are not in the menu please go through the instructions again and verify all files are in the correct place.
Install HD Portals
1: Go to Willybachs HD Valheim
2: Download only one of the following:
Main Files -> HD Portals - In-Game Video Version
Optional Files -> HD Portals - AI Images Version
3: Extract the contents of the file you downloaded directly into your bepinex\plugins folder.
IMPORTANT - If you are using a mod manager such as R2 or Thunderstore you need to extract the files into the bepinex/plugins folder located in the mod profile folder
4: If you have extracted the files correctly your plugins folder should have both the dll file and the data folder of the mod in it as per the picture below. If you do not see files like this then you have not extracted the files correctly.
5: Confirm the mod is working by travelling through a portal. If the mod installed correctly you should see the new portal transition screen for the version you installed. If not go through the instructions again and ensure you have all the files in the correct places.
